Teaching philosophy

My approach is diagnostic first. Before teaching anything new, I identify precisely where a student’s understanding breaks down: which hidden misconception, weak definition, missing step, or careless habit is generating errors downstream. This is not guesswork. It requires deep subject knowledge and the pattern recognition that comes only from thousands of hours of teaching.

The Companion applies that same principle digitally: begin with the student’s course and question, identify the weak step, explain it clearly, then test the idea again.

Why I built the AI Companion

Bloom’s 1984 research remains one of the most powerful arguments ever made for personal tutoring: students improve most when feedback is immediate, individual, and precisely targeted. The problem is access. High-quality tutoring is expensive, limited by time, and unavailable at the moment when many students most need help. Why does water have a higher boiling point than Hâ‚‚S?
Great question — and a classic exam favourite. The key is hydrogen bonding. Water's O–H bonds are highly polar, so each molecule can form up to four hydrogen bonds with neighbours. H₂S only forms weak London dispersion forces — sulfur's lower electronegativity means S–H bonds aren't polar enough for H-bonding. More energy is needed to overcome water's network of H-bonds, hence the much higher boiling point (+100°C vs −60°C).

How is this different from a general chatbot?

Will it simply give students the answer?
