UK universities

UCASIf you are interested in applying to a UK university then you are obliged to apply via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). All of the application is conducted online via the UCAS website at www.ucas.com. An applicant is limited to five (5) choices of undergraduate degrees at any one or more of the UK universities.

Deadlines:
15 October for those applying for Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science
15 October for those applying to Oxford or Cambridge (one cannot apply to both)
15 January for all other applicants
24 March for some Art & Design courses that require portfolios

The prospective applicant will fill out all the required fields in the UCAS application, write a personal statement and submit a reference preferably from a school teacher. Once the application fee – £23 – has been paid online, the application is directed to all the relevant universities which will review the application. The universities will then reply with an offer or a rejection. The offer may be conditional or unconditional. A conditional offer normally clearly states the required grades for a prospective student to attain in order to secure the place. Generally, the universities are obliged to submit their offers or rejections by the end of March though this timescale is not always adhered to. Once the applicant has received all the decisions, he or she has to decide which offers he or she wants to accept or reject. The applicant is allowed to elect one offer as his or her firm offer and another as an insurance. If the conditions are met when the examinations results come out the applicant will be granted the place; otherwise, if the applicant does not meet the conditions of either the firm or insurance offer, then he or she can submit another application in the Clearing System which takes place in the middle of August.

We at AGF Tutoring have years of experience counselling students how to apply to the most appropriate universities, guiding them through the application process, and advising as to what constitutes a great personal statement. If requested, we will research the most appropriate degree courses for you by contacting the universities directly.
